According to sources close to the multiple world rally champion, Sébastien Loeb was not finding full satisfaction in rallying (WRC) or the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). A lack of speed, underperforming factory cars, worn-out competition, over-marked circuits. In short, all these factors, combined with a longing for adventure, got the better of him. The president of his fan club adds: “We saw it coming, and this adventure had to end someday. His eyes weren't sparkling the way they used to behind the wheel of his Supercing GT Turbo. We all dreaded the day it would happen, and here we are… it's over.”
His detractors, meaning every competitor who spent the last 15 years trailing well behind him, are proclaiming loudly: “The championship is about to rise from its ashes.” According to Daniel Elena, Loeb's famous co-driver, “Séb had this odd way of driving, with sharp jerks of the wheel left and right, what he used to call calls and counter-calls. Personally, it made me nauseous.”
Whatever the case, it is in the highly celebrated WMC that Sébastien Loeb will continue his career in 2017. The WMC, short for World Motorhomes Championship, brings together the world's best motorhome drivers for wild rides on roads, trails, rest areas and campsites across the globe.
A remarkable debut for this master of the wheel during his first run in Portugal, where he opened up a sizeable lead over the 2016 championship leader, Hervé McRent, nicknamed RV the American.
Against all expectations from his fans, it is now behind the wheel of a motorhome from Team CoolDrive Nomad that Sébastien Loeb will indulge his deep passion for the road.
