Everyone agrees that New Zealand ranks among the most beautiful places to explore along its scenic routes in a motorhome.
If you're planning a trip to New Zealand, here are ten things worth knowing to make your stay even more enjoyable:
1 - Be ready for anything weather-wise
Weather here changes fast, especially if you're driving the length of the country.
2 - Save the best for last:
Travel from north to south. The North Island is lovely, but the mountains and fjords of the South Island are even more spectacular.
3 - Use a campervan or motorhome
to explore the country and get close to the sights without packing and unpacking every day. Freedom camping is even allowed under certain conditions (see point 9).
4 - Go hiking!
New Zealand has an extensive network of walking trails, from half-day strolls to multi-day treks.
5 - Lord of the Rings fan?
Then don't miss a visit to Hobbiton and the film locations from the trilogy.
6 - Stay connected!
Wifi is available in every café and restaurant, and you can also buy a local SIM card for cheaper texts and calls.

7 - Try bungee jumping:
Bungee jumping was invented in New Zealand (where else?). There are plenty of places to try it safely, but the most popular and spectacular are in Queenstown.
8 - Plan for extra time:
Getting around usually takes longer than expected. It's not just the photo stops you won't be able to resist; the roads are mountainous and winding, and there are plenty of one-lane bridges with alternating traffic. Be realistic when planning your routes.
9 - Try freedom camping:
Many freedom camping areas are allowed if you rent a vehicle certified 'self-contained' — one with a minimum level of autonomy, including fresh water tanks and, crucially, grey and black water tanks.
10 - Don't put off your travel plans:
Go and discover New Zealand. Kiwis are friendly and welcoming, the scenery is breathtaking, the culture is unique, and the food and wine are fantastic. So what are you waiting for? Rent your motorhome with CoolDrive Nomad and come on over!
